Ephemera: Lay Me Down a Pallet on Your Knee (c.1935)

Hah, man, I never thought I'd see a picture of someone actually playing one of those weirdo Supertone (Sears catalog, Harmony-made) "pallet" triangular box guitars from the time they were made. Folk history often refers to these as "homemade" guitars but in reality a couple makers marketed them as cheapy starters that fit in with the "hillbilly music" aesthetic that was popular at the time.

It just goes to show that there's nothing new under the sun, huh?
