Coconut Uke on YouTube

Just uploaded a new song of mine with the coconut uke as accompaniment. Just thought I'd share...

Nice tune and it works well with that oh-so-Hawaiian uke. Really like the one shoulder strap idea. Haven't seen anybody do that with a uke before. I have one of those around the neck soundhole straps, but I don't find it very comfortable.

Yessir, the soundhole straps are kind of nutty. Of course, having to put a strap pin in a uke isn't the nicest experience, especially on a vintage uke, but on this fella it was sort of necessary to reinforce the neck joint with a bolt. I used a plastic endpin and cut the shaft at an angle to fit the heel's angle, drilled a hole through it, then attached it in the same was as an elec. guitar strap button. Sounds simple but I lost a couple end pins before I got it "just right."

Mh, and to get back to the topic... over-the-shoulder straps put your instrument in the right place because you're sort of pushing towards your left arm with them. This is why mandolin players use them. For larger instruments, the over-the-back and up the opposite shoulder straps work better.
